Post-op day 20.

After what felt like a week of rain, it's hot here. I'm lying in front of the fan with the air conditioner on high. It's a good day to do nothing, which is mostly what I've been doing since surgery.

Bed rest is giving me time to read. I've missed reading. I've been in the habit of doing lots of internet reading, which isn't really reading, then turning on the television to watch the Sox lose. But there's only so much television I can watch, and even I have to turn away from the computer now and then, so hello again, books.

I started with something light to ease my brain back into reading mode: Diablo Cody's hilarious Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper. Seriously recommended; I kept laughing out loud. Now I'm buried in Holding On to the Air, Suzanne Farrell's autobiography, which is neither light nor funny but fascinating regardless.

I'll need something light again after this. Any recommendations?

My recovery continues to be uneventful, which is excellent. I can:

-- get out of and into bed on my own
-- bear some slight weight on my operated leg without pain
-- shower with help getting in and out
-- pick up small objects from the floor (carefully, leaning on the walker)
-- roll onto my good hip with a pillow between my knees and stay there for five or ten minutes
-- stand long enough to brush my teeth, floss, and wash my face without needing to rest
-- walker my way to the kitchen and back for lunch or a water bottle refill

I am still sleeping a lot (two naps a day) and taking my pain medication. I'm hoping I can start to cut back on the dose this week. My hip will tell me when it's ready.

And now my eyes are closing and it's time to sleep again. I'm very good at that.
